Entre os recursos do protagonista para sobreviver em meio ao caos instalado na cidade de Atenas estão poderes especiais concedidos pelos deuses, como a habilidade de transformar inimigos em pedras (o poder da medusa, presente da deusa Hera), os raios de Zeus ou campo elétrico de Poseidon. Contudo, o coringa de Kratos são as já mencionadas Blades of Chaos, que consistem em 2 espadas acopladas a correntes, e estas, por sua vez, atadas aos braços do espartano. O jogo foi bastante aclamado pela crítica por conta de seu visual magnífico. Seus gráficos superam as espectativas de seu console e seu lado artístico é bastante fiel à Grécia antiga e sua mitologia.
